Data - Backup and Restore
Database backup and restore.
Data Backup
In Version III and IV the database can and should be backed up on
regular bases. The backup / restore feature is located under Tools &
Preferences / Data backup
To backup your database click "Backup your data" button.
The software will dump all the records from your database in to a
small file. You will see the records dumping in the blue field. Then
the file is encrypted with your license key and the "Save As"
dialog box will appear. Browse to where you want to save the backup
file (My Documents, a CD, a memory stick, a thumb drive etc). Type in
the name of the backup file and click Save button.
The backup file also contains the date of the backup.
Data Restore
To restore database backup navigate to the backup / restore
feature located at Tools & Preferences / Data backup
Click on the "Browse" button and navigate to the backup
location. (My Documents, a CD, a memory stick etc) . Select the file
you want to restore and click "Open". The file is first
decrypted and the backup properties will appear to the right showing
file location, the date of the backup the build number with which the
backup was made and the name of the user this backup is licensed to.
(You).
If the database backup encrypted with some one else's key it will
not open on your machine. Similarly: if you loose your portable
backup device and some one opens it the back up will be worthless
without your license key.
Once the "Perform backup" button is enabled you can
click it to restore the data.
The "Wipe out all existing records" check box (OFF by
default) is checked the software will delete all existing records in
the database before performing a restore. Use this only if both
conditions apply:
A) You are sure of the backup file. You know that the backup file
contains the right data.
B) You want to perform a clean restore.
NOTE:
The either restore options will erase the existing account data
and re-create it from the backup.
