Other software to use in your truck.
The following software packages are not
developed or marketed by Largo Software, but we highly recommend
giving it a try because we ourselves used it in the eighteen-wheeler
and found it rather useful.
Log book software
Log Book -DDL Driver's Daily Log
[Driver's Daily Log] is NOT developed by
Largo Software, it is written by F. Roland "Nick" Bjorklund
and we used it since 1996 in our trucks. This log book software is
stable, accepted by DOT, can print logs in different scan-ware
formats and really easy to use. We highly recommend [giving it a try].

Routing software
Co-Pilot Truck
Made by ALK and boasts to be thee
[routing software for truckers] when it comes to routing, however it crashes
all the time, and it did put us in front of a 9'6" bridge in
Chicago. So trust by verify. Not a greatest by any means, expensive
but better then nothing. The only good thing that comes out of this
box is the [SiRF Star III 6017 GPS] unit that ALK sell with their
routing software.
PC-Miler
[PC-Miler] Useless when it comes to finding an
address, but excellent for figuring out your log book. The software
that DOT is using to check your log book is based on the same map
data set and made from the same libraries, so if you check your log
book against PC-Miler you will not go wrong. Very expensive, a four
digit price tag on this one.
Microsoft Streets and Trips
Is NOT a truck route but, has a very
detailed map and with [our template] will give you truck stops and
weigh stations. With Microsoft Streets and trips you can find just
about any address in US and Canada, Co-Pilot truck does not have any
of those addresses.
The GPS unit that comes with it is a
garbage, we strongly recommend [SiRF Star III 6017 by Rikaline], this
unit works with Co-Pilot, MS Streets and trips and DeLorme and does
not lose signal except in a tunnel.
DeLorme road atlas
For those who does not like Microsoft
products there is [DeLorme]. The address database is as good as MS
Streets and Trips, has night mode as MS Streets and trips and has up
to three next turns instructions. Priceless for finding hard to find
locations. DeLorme GPS unit Earth Mate is rather slow to pick up the signal, not the best unit at all, we still recommend the Rikaline instead.
PC Protection software
If your PC came with Norton or McAfee
[get reed] of those over bloated anti virus monsters. Those programs
attach them self like a leach to everything on your machine while let
AddWare and Viruses through. If you really want to protect your PC
from intruders try the following and free software:
[Avast! anti virus]
Has free end professional editions. The
free edition is very very powerful while does not slow you machine
down one bit.
[Spy Bot Search and Destroy]
By Safer Networking - a free and
ruthless spy protection software includes Tea Timer applet the
protects your registry from being hijacked by not so well behaved
programs. DO NOT CONFUSE THIS WITH SPYWARE BOT - SPYWARE BOT IS A COMMERCIAL JUNK.
[AVG Anti virus]
Also has a free and
paid editions, both are powerful and both do not slow your machine
down.
Do not browse the Internet with
Internet Explorer, a default browser that comes with MS Windows.
Searching the net with this browser is like going to a whorehouse
without a condom. You will get junk on your machine. Alternative
[Mozilla Firefox] - a light, fast and
powerful browser available as a free download from open source
community.
